THE GROWING SPIRIT:
Discovery and Recovery

A Poetry Chapbook

EMPTY PEDESTALS ©

I put you on a pedestal
And worshipped you.
I lived in your skin
And engulfed you.
But as time stretched out,
You pulled away,
Further and further -
Until I realized that my life was empty.
And so I let you go.

You clung then to the pedestal,
Promising to be the illusion
I had loved so long.

But now I love myself enough,
And I care about you,
But not for you.
And I am here in the sun
While you cry in the rain,
Sending out sticky hooks,
That try to entangle my heart again.

No more.
