THE GROWING SPIRIT:
Discovery and Recovery

A Poetry Chapbook

GROWTH ©

Slowly a leaf is unfurling
On one of my houseplants.
This morning I noticed the new stalk.
It was tightly coiled -
Only the intention of a leaf.
Then, when I looked again,
It had loosened,
Just a bit,
Opening part of itself
To the sun and the light.

Each time I look
It is a little further along,
A minute step closer
To its fulfillment.

The process is infinitely slow,
Yet perfectly timed.
Nothing can force the growth,
Or change the glory
Of the finished product.
